here’s another one
AAH! Really awful! I had no idea.
“Gun piercings are often crooked and off-center because of their method of creation.”
YUP. That’s what happened to me when I got my ear lobes pierced. The left piercing was placed correctly in the front but too low in the back. I had to wait a really long time for it to close up to get it re-pierced. I really wish I had thought to do research. I still have a mark (scar?) where the old piercing was.
Add me to the “no idea” club. Got my ears pierced with a piercing gun when I was about 7 (and it hurt like you would NOT believe) and I had to let the holes go back because the left one was constantly draining and sore.
Yep. Learned it over time, although I got my lobes done with a gun at Claire’s when I was 11 like just about every other girl.
Don’t have any real interest in other piercings (or tattoos for that matter) but you best believe I’ll be doing shit-tons of research on places if I ever do.
My mom had my ears pierced when I was less than a year old. Between the ages of 14 and 23, I had second and third holes done on four separate occasions at mall piercing stalls. When I was a teenager, they got infected and closed up. When I was in my twenties, I finally managed to keep the second holes open, but the third holes I had done above them pinched a nerve. It was too painful to wear anything in one ear, so I let them mostly heal up.
Recently, I decided to reopen them. I went to a professional piercer who proceeded to tell me that I had a lot of scar tissue (what I already knew) and that due to the piercing gun likely being misaligned, I had two back holes in one ear — one from the gun that was lower than the front hole, then another that likely came from me forcing an earring through straight.
Having been through the piercing thing on four separate occasions, I was prepared for an ungodly amount of pain. What I received, from the needle the professional piercer used, was a mild amount of pressure … and an unbelievable feeling of relief. For me, it was almost entirely painless. Having tension hoops, rather than studs, also helped me keep the piercing clean. It’s been over a month since I got them done and I couldn’t be happier. I’m planning on going back for fourth holes and an industrial soon.
Yes, it’s more expensive to go to a professional, but it’s well worth it to me not to have to deal with pain, infection, and haphazard equipment.
Plus, come on. How awful is it to force blunt metal through your flesh? Just the sickening pop of a stud earring going into an ear is enough to make me sick to my stomach now.
I am now suddenly very glad my piercings are as okay as they are. One is slightly crooked but other than that, no real complications.
